BROKEN HALFSHAFTS

The Tickford halfshafts were basically a stock Capri unit, machined to
clear the bearing, with the stud holes opened up to slide over
the studs on the hub.

Unfortunately, over the life of the Tickford Capri, the halfshafts have been shown
to have a weak point in their design and many owners have snapped them!

One complete half-shaft

This end is no problem But at the joint with the flange, a sharp angle in the machining
rather than a radius creates a stress point that doesn't
   dissipate the load effectively

Brian managed to get a replacement pair made for him by  Quaife Engineering Ltd

Subsequently, the March 2013 edition of Classic Ford happened to run a comprehensive
article about the Atlas axle and a copy of that article is provided here:

The article was based around a company called  RACE (Rally and Competition Equipment)

THE HALFSHAFTS ON PAGE 2 AND HUBS ON PAGE 3 OF THE ARTICLE ARE EXACTLY
THE SAME AS THE ONES ON THE TICKFORD CAPRI

They are better quality than the originals and available from stock!

If you need to move your car while you are waiting for the new halfshafts to be
delivered, remove the broken shaft and bolt your wheel back onto
the hub - you can then push the car around.

Another very useful company is Gartrac Ltd who can work on the Atlas
axle and also supply complete front strut replacements.
